Baseball Travels to Biloxi Tuesday to Face Nicholls

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team travels to the Gulf Coast to face Nicholls in the school's only visit to Keesler Federal Ballpark in Biloxi this season. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The contest is slated to be aired via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network. Tickets to the contest can also be purchased by clicking here.
Southern Miss (16-4) remains among the Top 25 in all major polls and is as high at No. 11 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, as well as earning a No. 12 spot in the rankings by D1Baseball.com.
This will be the 22nd game the Golden Eagles have played at Keesler Federal Ballpark (former MGM Park) and hold a 14-7 overall record. Fifteen of those contests came as part of three Conference USA Tournaments, spanning from 2017-2019. Southern
Miss lost in the championship game to Rice in 2017 but captured the title in each of the next two seasons, beating Florida Atlantic in both of those championship tilts. USM was 12-3 in C-USA Tournament contests there.
The Golden Eagles look to avenge a 3-2 setback to the Colonels (11-11) earlier this month at Pete Taylor Park. This will be the third consecutive and the fourth time playing the Colonels in Biloxi dating back to the 2017 campaign. Nicholls holds a 2-1 mark here over Southern Miss.
After hitting a pair of home runs over the weekend, senior center fielder Joey Urban continues to lead the Golden Eagles in hitting with a .360 batting average to go along with team highs of seven home runs and 21 RBI. Fellow senior, second baseman Kyle Morrison, is next at .338 with six homers and 20 RBI.
Junior shortstop Seth Smith ranks third with a .327 batting mark with a homer and 11 RBI, while junior left fielder Davis Gillespie is hitting .3131 four long balls and 16 RBI.
Freshman right-hander Dylan Causey (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his third start of the year for the Golden Eagles. He will be faced by Colonel junior righty Dawson Richard (2-0, 3.78 ERA).
Following the contest, the Golden Eagles return home to play Troy in a three-game Sun Belt series. The set opens Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
