Softball Travels to Hammond for Midweek Action Against Southeastern

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (18-9, 0-0 Sun Belt) travels to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern (18-9, 3-0 Southland) in the last midweek game ahead of Sun Belt Conference play this weekend. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the Lady Lions' North Oak Park with Tyler Thomas commentating the game on ESPN+.
Wednesday's game closes a six-game road swing for Southern Miss that started last Friday at the Jacksonville Spring Break Classic. The Golden Eagles finished the tournament 4-1 and a plus-23 run differential and the lone loss coming to host North Florida by a 3-2 final. Hannah Christian (Hoover, Ala.) posted a .524 batting average and barreled Southern Miss' first home run of the year against Brown to open the weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.
Christian also led the Golden Eagles with 11 hits and 10 RBI over the weekend. Carrie Green (Loganville, Ga.) led Southern Miss with a .667 batting average and six walks reaching base a total of 17 times on the week. Madison Johnson (Haymarket, Va.) and Kayce Bennett (Watson, La.) also homered on the week.
Christian leads Southern Miss with a .424 batting average and also with 39 hits, 22 runs scored and 21 RBI on the year.
In the circle, Kayla Giardina (Kenner, La.) worked 20 1/3 innings with a 2.07 ERA, allowing 19 hits and posting a 2-1 record. Madilyn Graham (Stringer, Miss.) finished 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA on 11 innings and BrookLynn White (Maumelle, Ark.) also picked up a win on the week. Giardina led the team with 15 strikeouts and leads the overall squad with 51 on the year.
Southeastern enters the week with an 18-9 overall record and 3-0 mark in Southland Conference action after sweeping East Texas A&M last weekend. The Lady Lions also defeated UT Arlington on the road to begin their four-game stay in Texas.
Shelby Morris leads the Lady Lions with a .378 batting average as one of six Southeastern players batting .300 or better. Morris also leads the Lady Lions with 34 hits and 24 runs scored while Maria Detillier's four home runs pace SLU.
Cera Blanchard has worked the most innings with 51 1.3 innings pitched on the year while Hallie Burns and Haley Crawford have both pitched at least 30 frames, pitching 40 1/3 and 30 2/3, respectively. Crawford leads qualified pitchers with a 1.14 ERA with Blanchard just behind with a 1.23 mark. Blanchard does lead SLU with a 7-1 record in the circle.
