HAMMOND, La. – Southern Miss (18-10, 0-0 Sun Belt) fell to Southeastern (19-9, 3-0 Southland) by an 11-3 final score on Wednesday night at North Oak Park in six innings. The Lady Lions scored in every inning and tallied 13 hits to move past the Golden Eagles.

Southeastern's Hallie Burns improved to 6-3 on the year with the win while Madilyn Graham (Stringer, Miss.) fell to 5-2 after suffering the loss. Hannah Christian (Hoover, Ala.) led Southern Miss with two hits as one of five Golden Eagles to register a hit. Jolie Hays (Brandon, Miss.) and Carrie Green (Loganville, Ga.) each tallied an RBI.

The Lady Lions scored two runs in the first inning on two sacrifice flies with the second run unearned due to a Golden Eagle error. The Golden Eagles got their second walk of the game in the second frame but only sent four to the plate.

Another Southern Miss error allowed Southeastern to score a single run in the bottom of the frame to lead 3-0 after two complete innings. Green singled to score Christian from second base to give Southern Miss its first run of the day though a pop out and fly out ended the rally six pitches later.

Southeastern then began a string of two-run innings in the last of the third, scoring on an RBI single and an SAC bunt to lead 5-1 through three. Southern Miss did not score in the fourth while the Lady Lions homered and used an RBI triple to extend the margin again.

Hays got her RBI off a single that scored Green with two outs in the fifth inning. Hays scored two batters later off another RBI single from Madison Johnson (Haymarket, Va.). The Lady Lions scored two more in both the fifth and sixth innings, holding Southern Miss scoreless over that span. Hannah Christian did get the Golden Eagles' first extra-base hit on a ground-rule double in the sixth, but SLU used a two-RBI single to hit the run-rule margin with one out in the sixth.

Southern Miss returns home to Hattiesburg to open Sun Belt Conference play against Louisiana this weekend. The three game series is set to begin on Friday, March 13, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. The series continues on Saturday at 2 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
