HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis (5-4) put together a strong weekend on the home courts, rolling past New Orleans (4-4) by a 6-1 score on Friday before following it up with a 5-2 win over Norfolk State (5-4) on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles came out sharp against New Orleans and took control early with doubles wins from Kale Mize and Jay Temming, along with Olle Noltorp and Ritabrata Sarkar, to claim the opening point. Southern Miss carried that momentum into singles, where Mize, Jose Murariu, Saheb Sodhi, Noltorp and Jay Temming all earned victories. Murariu delivered one of the biggest moments of the day, bouncing back after dropping the first set to win in a third-set tiebreak and help keep the Golden Eagles in command.
Southern Miss brought that same energy back to the courts Saturday against Norfolk State. The Golden Eagles secured the doubles point with wins from Mize and Temming and the pair of Sodhi and Eric Perkowski. In singles, Mize, Sodhi, Noltorp and Matei Varbanciu all picked up wins as Southern Miss stayed in control throughout the afternoon. Varbanciu closed out a tight three-set battle to help seal the weekend on a high note.
With two more victories in hand, the Golden Eagles closed the homestand undefeated on the weekend and continued to build momentum as the spring slate moves forward.
