HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis (5-4) continues its road swing on Sunday, March 8, when the Golden Eagles travel to Baton Rouge for a 5 p.m. matchup against No. 6 LSU (15-2) at the LSU Tennis Complex. The trip will have LSU as the only match of the day after the originally scheduled contest against Southern University was canceled.
Southern Miss enters the weekend after building momentum late in February with back-to-back home wins over New Orleans and Norfolk State, improving to 5-4 on the season. The Golden Eagles also saw Kale Mize earn the first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor in program history after a strong weekend in both doubles and singles.
The Golden Eagles will be challenged by one of the nation's top teams in LSU. The Tigers were ranked No. 6 entering the weekend and improved to 15-2 after knocking off No. 2 Texas, 4-3, on Friday in Austin. LSU's Sunday slate features a home doubleheader, with Tennessee scheduled at noon before Southern Miss visits later in the afternoon.
LSU's roster features a deep and experienced group, and the Tigers have carried strong form throughout the spring. Earlier this season, LSU had captured the doubles point in every match through mid-February, a sign of how important the opening phase will be for Southern Miss on Sunday.
Southern Miss will bring a travel roster that includes Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Jay Temming, Kale Mize, Jose Murariu, Matei Varbanciu and Rasmus Becker, with Zubin Engineer leading the program and Nicolas Simkin serving on staff.
Sunday's contest will add another chapter to the all-time series between the two programs. LSU holds an 8-0 lead in the matchup history, including a 7-0 win over Southern Miss in the most recent meeting on March 9, 2025, in Baton Rouge.
First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. from the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge.
