Men’s Golf Jump to Second Place in Round Two of Dorado Beach Collegiate

DORADO, Puerto Rico – Southern Miss men's golf rise two spots to finish round two in second place behind only Stetson and in front of, tournament host, University of North Carolina Greensboro.
Coming off a one-over finish, sophomore Matthew Javier exploded to record a four-under 68 on the morning. His performance tied for the best round of golf on the event propelling the Canadian into a tied-for second individual finish. Ben Hogan award winner, Jake Moffitt is the only one tied with fellow Golden Eagle in Javier with is two-under 70. Moffitt improved on the round prior by one stroke with an improved back nine shooting a three-under 33.
The Golden Eagles improved from a five-over team finish on round one to an impressive eight-under team finish to conclude day two only four strokes behind Stetson who is in first. Supakorn Amornchaichan jumped 30 individual places with his two-under 70 showcase. Benjamin Fernandez rounded out the scoring for Southern Miss with his consistent even 72, a near identical scorecard from the day prior.
The Golden Eagles lead the 15 team field in par 4s with an average of 3.99 and a score of one-under, UNCG is in second place with a seven-over and a 4.07 average. Southern Miss leads the pack with 40 total birdies with a two-way tie for second with 36 from Butler and Stetson.
Walker Wise held his own in the individual category posting a one-under 71 with two sets of three birdies within four hole stretches. The red-shirt junior climbed 28 spots to wind up being tied-for 34th.
Moffitt is tied for first on par 3s, with a one-under and an average of 2.88, and on par 4s, with three-under and a 3.85 average. Amornchaichan is tied for third on par 4s with two-under and an average of 3.90. Fernandez is second in the event with 11 birdies only behind Stetson's Matthis Lefevre hoisting 12.
Round three will begin tomorrow, Feb. 24, at 6:00 a.m. with another shotgun start with Javier beginning on hole 1B, just after Moffitt on hole 1A, Benjamin Fernandez starts the day on hole two, Amornchaichan starting on hole three, Latter on seven and Wise on 14A.
