Men’s Golf Travels to Puerto Rico for the Dorado Beach Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Men's golf, coming off a top two finish behind No. 13 Illinois, travel to Puerto Rico to compete in the Dorado Beach Collegiate on Feb. 21 taking place at the TPC Dorado Beach course.
The Golden Eagles are among the 15 teams participating in the Dorado Beach Collegiate. The competition consists of the host in North Carolina Greensboro, Illinois State, Georgia State, Army, Temple, George Washington, Old Dominion, Stetson, George Mason, Butler, App State, Elon, Bryant and Providence.
The event kicks off at 6:30 a.m. CST in a shotgun style start on Sunday, Feb. 22. On Monday, Feb. 23, play continues with another 6:30 a.m. CST start with the contest concluding on Sunday, Feb. 24 with a 6:00 a.m. CST start.
The travel roster has six Golden Eagles slated to compete with Walker Wise lined up in the individual category. Benjamin Fernandez, Jake Moffitt, Supakorn Amornchaichan, Tommy Latter and Matthew Javier make up the team scoring roster. Fernandez is coming fresh off the best round in his collegiate career with a five-under 65 to place him top three at the Hal Williams Collegiate in front of a handful of top 100 participants.
The TPC Dorado Beach hosts two courses originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., with the Dorado Beach Collegiate being played on the East course. The course is a par 72 spanning 7,122 yards known for its challenging layout, strong winds, luscious tropical landscaping and golden bunkers cementing it as a top-ranked course. Robert Trent Jones Jr. renovated the course in 2011 to emphasize the panoramic ocean view which went on to host the 2015 PGA Tour Latinoamerica Tour Championship.
