CONWAY, S.C. – Southern Miss soccer (5-5-2, 2-3 SBC) created the better share of the chances during the opening half Thursday night before Coastal Carolina (7-5-2, 1-3-1 SBC) pulled away after the break for a 4-1 decision at Coastal Carolina Soccer Stadium. Georgia Gray provided a late bright spot for the Golden Eagles, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career.

Southern Miss started on the front foot and spent much of the opening 45 minutes around the Coastal goal. The Golden Eagles produced eight first-half shots to the Chanticleers' six, held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks and controlled 52 percent of possession. Ava Bynes and Vail Wartes each forced saves as Coach Danny Owens' group continued to create despite Olivia Goretski putting Coastal ahead in the 16th minute. Southern Miss went into halftime trailing 1-0.

The Golden Eagles continued searching for an equalizer after the break. Olivia Tribolet put an attempt on goal in the 58th minute before Bynes forced another save in the 68th. Coastal created separation from there, with Goretski scoring her second in the 67th minute before Kamden Pierce added another in the 76th. A penalty kick in the 84th accounted for the Chanticleers' final goal.

Southern Miss continued to compete through the final whistle and was rewarded in the 88th minute when Gray pushed forward from the back line and found the net for her first collegiate goal. Gray also played the full 90 minutes alongside Argentina Estrada in the center of the Southern Miss defense.

Bynes and Tribolet led the Golden Eagle attack with three shots apiece and two attempts on goal each. Southern Miss finished with 12 shots and placed six on frame, while Logan McGruder made four saves in goal.
