Benjamin Fernandez Paces Golden Eagles into Final Round of Blessings Collegiate Invitational

FAYATEVILLE, Ark.— Benjamin Fernandez held on to the individual lead for Southern Miss in round two of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, recording an eagle on his way to a three-over 75. Fernandez sits alone atop the individual leaderboard at three-under 141 through 36 holes at Blessings Golf Club, while Southern Miss remains in fourth place as a team.
Benjamin Fernandez made his eagle on the 663-yard, par-5 15th hole and followed it with a birdie on the par-4 16th. He also birdied the par-5 second, against four bogeys and a triple bogey on the par-3 eighth. Fernandez played the front nine at three-over 39 and the back nine at even-par 36. Through two rounds, he is tied with North Texas' Dion Regan for the best par-5 scoring average in the field at 4.25, playing those holes at six-under. He is tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring at an even-par 4.00 average, and his nine birdies are also tied for second.
Franco Fernandez matched his brother with a three-over 75 and climbed nine spots to tie for 22nd. The freshman played the back nine at one-under 35 with birdies on the par-5 15th and par-4 16th. His 25 pars through two rounds are tied for the most in the field with UNC Greensboro's BJ Boyce and Oral Roberts' Christian Johnson.
Supakorn Amornchaichan shot a six-over 78 and moved up four spots to tie for 27th. Amornchaichan made birdies on holes 2 and 4 and played the front nine at two-over 38. John Markow carded a nine-over 81 to sit tied for 31st, with birdies on holes 6 and 16. Jake Moffitt shot an 89 and tied for 43rd, making a birdie on the par-5 second.
Southern Miss shot 21-over on the day, matching North Texas and Kansas State, and ended the tournament's second round at 24-over par. The Golden Eagles are one stroke behind third-place UNCG, five strokes behind second-place North Texas and five strokes ahead of fifth-place Kansas State. Host Arkansas leads the field at five-under par, followed by North Texas at 19-over.
