HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Southern Miss women's golf team will tee off at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by North Carolina, on Friday morning. The three-day event will be played at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, spanning 7,041 yards, in N.C., Oct. 16-18.
Southern Miss is one of 14 teams in the field, which also includes Boston College, Charlotte, 15th-ranked Duke, third-ranked Florida, JMU, 13th-ranked Miami, Michigan State, NC State, Princeton, Rollins, Virginia Tech, top-ranked Wake Forest and the host UNC.
The Golden Eagles take on their third event of the fall campaign, with a top-three finish at the Tulane Classic, and coming off of a canceled final round at The Ally on Old Waverly Golf Course, due to the majority of the field getting sick.
Head coach Colton Cowan is traveling Chloe Stevenazzi, Morgan Guepet, Liv Romer, Savannah Van Gaalen and Louise Cuyvers. Cuyvers was the front runner for Southern Miss at The Ally with back-to-back rounds of two-over 74, in a tie for 32nd place, before the final round had been canceled.
Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1999, Finley Golf Club is a regulation-length public course that plays host to the Tar Heels. The 18-hole layout features Bermuda tees and fairways with Bent greens, and carries a course rating of 74.9 and a slope of 138, making it a stern test for any field. The facility also offers a driving range, power carts and push carts, and allows walking.
