HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Mississippi native, Jake Moffitt, is awarded the Ben Hogan Award's November/ December Golfer of the Month with a unanimous decision. The award was announced Thursday morning with the vote split into two parts, where he went on to win all three social media votes and the selection committee ballot.
Moffitt solidified himself as a top three candidate, alongside the No. 13-ranked Connor Williams of Arizona State and Georgia's Grayson Wood, most notably winning the International Amateur by seven shots. That is the largest margin of victory in the 15-year history of the tournament. The Freshman tallied a 17-under score of 268 through four rounds of the event. Additionally, Moffitt charted a 6-under 207 at the St. Augustine Amateur awarding him a runner up finish.
"What an incredible achievement to add to his impressive resume. Jake embodies everything good about a student athlete. His work ethic is unmatched. He is a fantastic student. He is very humble and focuses on his process to achieve success" says head coach Brescher. "The Moffitt Family is first class through and through, and they are raising a great person. I am extremely proud of Jake for this amazing achievement."
Through the first stint of the season, Moffitt posted an average of 70.47 through 15 rounds with 11 rounds of par or better placing him on pace to set a school record which is currently held by Cameron Clarke, set at 71.47 stroke average through 36 holes. Moffitt's fall campaign helped lead Southern Miss to the first back-to-back tournament wins since the 1979-80 season with wins at the JT Poston Invitational and the Badger Invitational.
