Golden Eagles Tied for Sixth as Benjamin Fernandez Cracks Top Three

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. — Benjamin Fernandez continued to top the leaderboards with a tie for third at the JT Poston Invitational, as Southern Miss stayed steady, ending the second round tied for sixth place on Monday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles were led by Benjamin Fernandez, who carded a six-under 65 to move into a tie for third. The senior turned in a clean front nine with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 15th hole, then added two more birdies on the back nine. John Markow carded a three-under 68 in his second collegiate round, picking up six birdies, four of which came on the front nine.
Matthew Javier posted a one-under 70, replicating his performance from round one with five birdies. The junior is tied for 32nd on the individual leaderboard, while his 10 birdies are tied for 11th in the field, alongside Fernandez. Supakorn Amornchaichan also posted a one-under 70, tallying three birdies, with his best work coming on par-5 holes, where the senior is averaging 4.38 strokes.
Jake Moffitt rounded out the team scoring with a one-over 72, ending the day in a tie for 53rd place. He ranks in the top 10 in stroke average on par-5 holes with 4.25. Franco Fernandez posted a five-over 76, adding two birdies to his tournament total of four.
At the conclusion of round two, Southern Miss is in a tie for sixth with UTRGV at 15-under, trailing Elon and South Carolina in a tie for fourth at 17-under. N.C. State took first place at 26-under par, followed by Lipscomb and Virginia Tech in a tie for second at 22-under par.
