Women's Golf Wraps Up Opening Day at Branch Law Firm/McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team opened its season on Monday at the Branch Law Firm/McGuire Invitational, hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course. The Golden Eagles finished the first two rounds in 15th with 620 total strokes through 36 holes.
Louise Cuyvers and newcomer Morgan Guepet posted the low rounds for the Golden Eagles to open the day, with both shooting a five-over 77. Both golfers drained three birdies — four of those birdies came on the back nine. Senior Taylor Trible finished one spot behind Cuyvers and Guepet after shooting a six-over 78 to open her season. Savannah Van Gaalen also added a 78 in her Southern Miss debut and posted a birdie on the fifth hole. Liv Romer finished the morning round with an 82, while posting a birdie on hole 18.
Trible moved up 13 spots in the afternoon round thanks to a three-over 75. The senior carded only three bogeys, including only one over the final 12 holes, to sit in a tie for 55th. Guepet and Romer both shot a six-over 78, while Romer played a clean back nine on the Championship Course in Albuquerque. Cuyvers and Van Gaalen had the lone birdies on the afternoon for Southern Miss, with Cuyvers carding one en route to a seven-over 79.
Sacramento State leads the field at one-under par, with South Alabama four strokes behind in second place. The top five is rounded out with Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and Montana State. The Hornets pulled away early in the first round with a tournament-best seven-under par round to start the day.
The Golden Eagles will tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday for the final round. The field will tee off with a shotgun start for the entire field.
