
Women's Golf Claims Third at Diane Thomason Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team registered its second consecutive top-three finish as the Golden Eagles fell into a tie for third at the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. On the individual side at Finkbine Golf Course, sophomore Louise Cuyvers finished in third for the second straight tournament.
The right-handed Belgian had five birdies on Tuesday, which helped her to an even-par round. Taylor Trible jumped up 10 spots into a tie for 17th after shooting a three-over 75. Alma Betoret finished in a tie for 31st after posting a seven-over 79 in the final round. Betoret's final round featured three birdies as she finished her first event of the season with seven total birdies.
Savannah Van Gaalen and Liv Romer both ended the tournament with a five-over 77. The round moved Van Gaalen into a tie for 37th and put Romer in a tie for 43rd. Lauren Greeny of Montana State won the individual title at five-under par, while Cuyvers finished one stroke behind Omaha's Katie Ruge in second place. Iowa won the team title at its home course after trailing Montana State by six strokes heading into the final round. Montana State, Southern Miss, South Dakota and Bowling Green rounded out the top five.
Southern Miss will have nearly three weeks off until its next event in West Point, Miss. The Golden Eagles are slated to tee off at The Ally on Oct. 20-22 at Old Waverly Golf Club.
