Men’s Golf Heads to Wisconsin for the Badger Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golf head up to Madison, Wis. to play in the Badger Invitational alongside 13 teams after a first-place finish at the JT Poston Invitational, a 15-team tournament, hosted in Waynesville, N.C.
The field hosts 14 total teams consisting of Southern Miss, DePaul, Green Bay, Illinois State, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Southern Illinois, Toledo, UTSA, VCU, Valparaiso, Wisconsin and Xavier. The course is an 18-hole, par-71 course with fast playing conditions stemming from the utilization of bent grass across the course drawing inspiration from coastal clubs in the southern U.S.
The tournament is a two-day event with teams playing 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 22 and finishing up with 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 23 with the Golden Eagles are slated to tee off at 8:15 a.m. with the last tee time at 9:03 a.m.
The Golden Eagles travel roster consists of Senior Will Burnham, red-shirt Junior Walker Wise making his season debut, Junior Benjamin Fernandez, Sophomore Matthew Javier, Freshman Jake Moffitt and Grayson Davis who is slotted in the individual category. Javier came up big in round three of the JT Poston Invitational logging four-under 66 to top the charts for Southern Miss. Fellow teammate Fernandez, after a four-over 74 on day one, hit four-under 66 on both rounds two and three which propelled the Golden Eagles to take first with the help from Burnham, shooting two-under 208, and Moffitt who shot for par.
Off the back of the win at the JT Poston Invitational, Southern Miss received voting in the Golfweek DI Coaches Poll released on September 19 to carry momentum into the Badger Invitational. Southern Miss returns to the Badger Invitational for the second time with the last appearance being from last season with a top six finish in a 16-team field.
