
Men’s Golf Secures JT Poston Invitational Team Tittle

Waynesville, N.C. –- The Golden Eagles took home their first team championship on Tuesday afternoon posting a three-round total of 827, 13-under par, at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club of Waynesville North Carolina. Southern Miss rounds out the event recording rounds of 275, 276, and 276 to end up finishing on top.
"I am extremely proud of the way our team stayed patient coming down the stretch today." Brescher said. "This was a very hard-fought battle against multiple first-class programs. The maturity that our guys showed is incredible."
Sophomore Matthew Javier and junior Benjamin Fernandez wrap up day three with the duo both producing four-under 66, with Fernandez picking up an eagle on hole 18 he doubles down off his four-under 66 from the day prior. Javier lands himself tied in fourth after jumping eight spots, with five-under par on the tournament and Fernandez just one stroke back jumping 10 spots from yesterday resulting in seventh place, tied with Kennesaw State's Hunter Gillard.
With help from senior Will Burnham who notched an even 70 with an eagle on hole 10, a par five, and a four-over 74 from Supakorn Amornchichan, the Golden Eagles come out on top over Kennesaw State who shot seven-under par on the day finishing in second place, one stroke back, and the host in Western Carolina finishing in third collecting nine-under par through the three days.
Grayson Davis rounds out his first collegiate event in the individual category shooting a four-over 74 on the day and a 78th place finish with fellow Golden Eagle, Amornchichan. The pair logged 14 total birdies with five coming from Davis to top off the 58 birdies Southern Miss collected as a whole.
The Golden Eagles are set to play in the Badger Invitational hosted in Madison, Wisconsin marked for Sept. 22-23. The two-day event will be hosted at TCP Wisconsin with Southern Miss returning to the event for the second straight year.
