Southern Miss Shows Fight in Narrow Defeat to Ole Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Soccer (0-4-0, 0-0-0 SBC) fell 1-0 to Ole Miss (2-1-0, 0-0-0 SEC) in its home opener on Sunday afternoon.
The lone goal of the match came in the 49th minute, when Ole Miss defender Katie Ramsden converted for her third tally of the season. Despite the setback, the Golden Eagles produced a strong response in the second half, outshooting the Rebels 4-4 after the break and creating multiple dangerous looks in front of goal.
Lorilee Taylor and Rhyleigh Marks each placed shots on frame, while Zayla Reagan and Fatim Bangus added key attacking efforts that forced the Rebel back line into action. Maddie Ellis anchored the defense with seven saves in nearly 60 minutes of work before Lena Blake came on to close the final half-hour, adding another stop. Together, the Golden Eagle goalkeepers finished with eight saves to keep the match within reach.
Southern Miss finished with six total shots, with four on goal. Ole Miss held a narrow 11-6 edge in shots and a 54-46 advantage in possession, while both sides finished with one yellow card apiece.
