HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss starting pitcher JB Middleton (Yazoo City, Miss.) and reliever Colby Allen (Louisville, Miss.) each earned first-team All-South Region honors by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Tuesday, while both second baseman Nick Monistere (Brandon, Miss.) and shortstop Ozzie Pratt (Alesville, Miss.) collected second-team accolades.
The 2025 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region Teams recognize outstanding players in eight regions around the country and these teams are voted on by members of the ABCA with the process being led by the organization's NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Middleton, a junior right-handed pitcher and the No. 34 prospect in next month's MLB First-Year Player Draft, finished his first season as a Golden Eagle starter with a 10-1 record and a 2.31 ERA. He also fanned 122 and walked just 25 in 105 1/3 innings during the year, while only allowing 65 hits. With only the College World Series left to be played, Middleton currently ranks No. 2 in WHIP (0.85), fifth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.55), sixth in strikeouts, ninth in wins and 10th in ERA nationally.
Allen, a junior right-handed reliever, appeared in 29 games with two starts and posted a 7-4 record with 12 saves and a 3.63 ERA. Those numbers included 77 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 67 innings of work. His save total ranks No. 10 nationally, while his total appearances are No. 18 in the country. His season save total also is tied for fifth best at the school, while his 19 career saves hold a No. 7 ranking at Southern Miss.
Monistere, the Sun Belt Player of the Year, finished his junior campaign with a .323 average with team bests of 21 home runs and 72 RBI. He also led the squad with seven stolen bases. His season home run total ties him for ninth on the school chart and his RBI total is the most by a Golden Eagle in a season since Reed Trimble collected that many during the 2021 campaign. His home run total also ranks No. 13 nationally.
Pratt, a senior who started and played in 125 of the team's 126 games over his two-year Golden Eagles career, ended his final season with a .311 batting average to go along with 11 doubles, eight home runs and 53 RBI. He also ranked second on the squad in walks with 32, while only fanning 23 times during the year. Pratt made just one error over his final 33 games. His offensive total also saw him tie for the team lead in sacrifice bunts with nine, while his eight sacrifice flies not only led the team but also ranked No. 10 nationally.
The recognition of these players by the ABCA/Rawlings marks the third-straight year that four Golden Eagles were represented either on the All-South Region first or second team.
The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Brian Green of Wichita State. The committee also includes Mitch Canham (Oregon State), Chris Curry (Little Rock), Dean Ehehalt (Monmouth), Jeff Mercer (Indiana), Brian O'Connor (Mississippi State), Jim Penders (Connecticut), and Butch Thompson (Auburn).
The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 13 prior to the start of the 2025 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. First Team All-Region selections are eligible for All-America honors.
