HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team takes to the road again this weekend when they travel to Boone, N.C., for the first time in its history for a Sun Belt Conference series against App State. The series opens on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
Â
All three games can be seen via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
The Golden Eagles (28-13 overall, 12-6 SBC) are tied with Troy for second in the league standings, trailing Coastal Carolina by two games. The Mountaineers (21-19, 11-7) sit a game behind second.
Â
Southern Miss brings a two-game winning streak into the weekend after Nick Monistere belted a ninth-inning, game-winning homer against Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night at home for a 5-4 victory. Monistere continues to swing a hot bat for the Golden Eagles holding a current team-best eight-game hitting streak. Having recorded 22 RBI over the last eight games, Monistere holds a .333 batting average with team highs of 15 home runs and 50 RBI.
Â
Sophomore center fielder Jake Cook continues to lead the team in batting average with a .351 average, which includes 20 infield hits in 2025.
Â
These two programs have met previously three times in their baseball histories with the Golden Eagles holding a 2-1 advantage. The first two contests came during the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament in which the teams split a pair of games. App State won the first meeting 4-2, but the Golden Eagles won later in the day, 11-1 in seven innings, in an elimination contest that propelled them to the championship game.
Â
Both schools also met last year in the postseason league event with the Golden Eagles capturing a 7-5 decision.
Â
Following the App State series, Southern Miss returns home Tuesday to face New Orleans in its final non-conference game of the regular season. Game time is set for 6 p.m., and tickets are still available by clicking here.
