
Beach Volleyball’s Regular Season Comes to a Close at Lone Star Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss beach volleyball (12-19, 3-5 Sun Belt) to Austin, Texas, to play in the Lone Star Invitational as the 2025 regular season comes to a close. The Golden Eagles will play four matches against three nationally-ranked opponents with No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 7 Texas and No. 17 North Florida.
Texas is not providing live statistics for any matches but Saturday's match against the Longhorns will be streamed on the Longhorn Network.
Match 32 // Southern Miss vs. No. 17 North Florida (21-6, 10-1 Atlantic Sun)

The Golden Eagles open on Friday morning against No. 17 North Florida. The Ospreys lead the Atlantic Sun Conference ahead of their conference tournament in Huntsville, Ala., next week. UNF finished 4-0 last week at their North Florida Invite, taking two wins over Jacksonville and Mercer, respectively. This will be the first meeting between the two squads since opening weekend in 2022 where North Florida took a 4-1 decision. The Ospreys lead the all-time series 2-0.
Three Ospreys earned Preseason All-ASUN selections with Presley Murray earning an unanimous decision with Madison Espy and Cameron Humphries also slotting in. Murray and Mackenzie Murphy earned Pair of the Week honors on March 5 while Espy and Feliciano Sanchez collected the Ospreys' second nod on April 2.
North Florida is led by fourth-year head coach Doug Wright, who sports an impressive 94-43 overall ledger with the Ospreys. Wright has collected at least 20 wins in all four seasons with two seasons of 25-win campaigns. UNF is fresh off of their first appearance in the NCAA National Championships where they defeated Chattanooga before falling to Southern California.

The Longhorns enter with a 21-8 overall record after sweeping through Florida State's Unconquered Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. Texas notched wins over No. 5 Florida State, No. 10 LSU and No. 15 Florida Atlantic. The showing bumped the Longhorns up in the polls, moving from eighth to seventh this past week.
The Golden Eagles and Longhorns will play twice on Friday at Noon and at 6:30 p.m. in the day's final match in Austin. The two matches will be the first between Southern Miss and Texas. Longhorns Chloe Charles and Eva Liisa Kuivonen earned March 25 CCSA Pair of the Week honors while Maddison Parmelly and Karin Zolnercikova claimed the honor on April 8.
Head coach Stein Metzger is in his second season in Austin and sports a 28-16 record leading the Longhorns with a 270-55 overall record. Before coming to the Forty Acres, Metzger led his alma mater, UCLA, to a 242-39 ledger over eight seasons. His Bruins captured the 2018 National Championship over Florida State.
As a program, Texas is playing its first true season of beach volleyball after joining the CCSA this year. The Longhorns' inaugural season came in 2023 with Texas collecting an 8-20 record in their first two seasons.

Cal Poly fell from third to sixth in the national polls after a 1-3 performance at their Center of Effort Challenge last week. The Mustangs defeated No. 7 Florida State while dropping decisions to No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 Southern California and No. 1 TCU.
Cal Poly leads the all-time series against Southern Miss 5-0, last playing in 2024 twice. Two Mustangs pairings have earned Big West Pair of the Week honors. Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep earned March 10 laurels from the BWC while Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter claimed the March 4 honors. Martinez and Walter were also named AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week on March 18.
Todd Rogers is in his 10th season leading Cal Poly where he holds a 195-120 overall ledger. The Mustangs fell in the NCAA National Championship semifinals last season to No. 1 Southern California.
