
Ando’s Hot Start Leads Women’s Golf in First Day of Sun Belt Championships

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Southern Miss women's golf sits in seventh place after the first round of play in the Sun Belt Conference Championships at the 6,106-yard Lakewood Golf Club thanks to Momoka Ando's team-leading two-under 70.
Starting on the back nine, Ando finished two-under thanks to four birdies before staying even coming out to reach her first round total. Ando has sole possession of second place on the player leaderboard ahead of Tuesday's second round action after sinking 16 holes at par or better.
Taylor Trible fired a three-over 75 and sits in 32nd while Louise Cuyvers is 34th with a four-over 76. Trible, along with Alma Betoret de Salazar, were tied on the day with a three-under on all par fives with Trible finishing second among the field with five birdies.
Betoret de Salazar rounded out Southern Miss' top four with a six-over 78, ranking 49th. Elena Melich also teed off for the Golden Eagles and finished nine-over (81 strokes) on the course.
Georgia Southern leads the pack after finishing one-under as a team. South Alabama is three strokes behind and is followed by Coastal Carolina, ULM and Troy to round out the top five. Georgia Southern's LoraLie Cowart leads the field with a four-under 68 with Ando trailing her by two strokes. Varatkarn Kunkaew (Coastal Carolina), Yvonne Chamness (Texas State), Danielo Campillo (ULM), Katharina Schroll (South Alabama) and Ona Lukes (App State) are all tied for third with a one-under 71 in round one.
