Beach Volleyball Closes Out Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern Miss (12-19, 3-5 Sun Belt) finished its time at LSU with a hard-fought decision against Houston Christian. The Golden Eagles return to Hattiesburg before hitting the road for the final tournament of the regular season next week.

The Islanders from Corpus Christi, Texas, finished their time in Baton Rouge with authority after picking up wins over Southern Miss and South Carolina. A&M-CC's took all five sets against the Golden Eagles in straight sets, though Madison Cassidy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) pushed the first flight to a 25-23 decision in the first set.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up their four-match span in the Bayou State against its fourth Southland Conference program in Houston Christian (11-15). The Huskies took the first point of the match at the top flight before Jessica Fairly (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) and Dylan Russell (Oklahoma City, Okla.) evened things up with a victory at the fourth pair.

Southern Miss and HCU traded point again with the Huskies winning the fives and Southern Miss tying the game 2-2 thanks to Laurel Dennis' (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda's (Pleasanton, Texas) 20th win of the year. The duo now stands one-win back from Kylie Grandy and Abbey Wilson's 21-win campaign in 2021.

All eyes turned to the third pairing where Jaden White (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Carmen Sanchez Delgado (Málaga, Spain) stood knotted 1-1 after winning the first set and dropping the first. HCU's third pair was able to outlast the Golden Eagle threes, taking a 15-9 decision to collect the win in favor of the Huskies.
