
Beach Volleyball Heads to Baton Rouge in Penultimate Week of Regular Season Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (11-16, 3-5 Sun Belt) hits the road again for its second-to-last tournament of the regular season at LSU's Battle on the Bayou. The Golden Eagles will face Houston Christian, New Orleans, Stephen F. Austin and (RV) Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at the two-day event.

Match 28 // Southern Miss vs. New Orleans (4-24, 2-8 Southland)

Southern Miss opens the tournament against New Orleans, marking the third time the two have played this season. Southern Miss won the prior two meetings 3-2 on March 14 and 5-0 last Friday to move the series to 7-6 in favor of the Privateers.
Last week, New Orleans posted a 1-3 overall slate after dropping matches to Southern Miss and Spring Hill in Hattiesburg before returning to the Lakefront where the Privateers defeated Nicholls and fell to ULM.

Friday's action wraps up against Stephen F. Austin, who the Golden Eagles meet for the third time in program history. The series is tied 1-1 with SFA taking the first meeting in 2022 and Southern Miss evening the all-time record last year.
The Lumberjacks are already 2-0 on the week after collecting a pair of victories over UMHB in Nacogdoches and finished last weekend 3-1 at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi's Islander Classic.
Head coach Rachel Calderón is in her first season leading the squad after serving the 2023 and 2024 seasons as assistant coach for SFA.

Southern Miss' Saturday matches open against (RV) Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, who currently sit one game out of first place in the Southland Conference. The Islanders lead the all-time series 5-0, winning 5-0 last season in Baton Rouge in the only meeting between the two.
The Islanders finished the Islander Classic 4-0 last week to finish the year undefeated on friendly sand. Head coach Gayle Stammer is in her ninth season with the Islanders and has led the squad to three consecutive 20-win seasons. The Islanders posted a record 28-win season last year with Stammer holding a 131-98 career worksheet in Corpus Christi.

The Huskies had last week off, last taking the sand for the three-day Southland Conference Mid-Season Tournament in Thibodaux. HCU finished the tournament 4-2, nearly doubling their season win total, which includes five games against ranked opponents and four against teams that received votes.
Southern Miss has won the prior two meetings between the two, last taking a 4-1 win in Baton Rouge last season. Cameron Sitler is currently in year eight leading the Huskies and sports a 98-127 overall record in Houston.
