
Men’s Golf Place Third at Memphis Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Behind third-round scores of 74 by both Supakorn Amornchaichan and Ryan Dupuy, the Southern Miss men's golf team placed third Tuesday in the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn.
The Golden Eagles shot a team round of 300 over the final circuit of the two-day event played on the par 72, 7,334-yard course.
Sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) ended his 54-hole tournament with a 76 to finish at a total of eight-over 224 to tie for 12th place. Amornchaichan, a sophomore from Pattaya City, Thailand, placed tied for 16 with a 225 total. Dupuy, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., finished two strokes back of Amornchaichan at 227 and in a 23rd-place tie.
Both junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) and freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) collected a 76 and 78, respectively, to each tie for 28th place with a 229. Redshirt sophomore Walker Wise from Tupelo, Miss., playing as an individual, registered a final-round 83 for a 238 total and a 58th-place tie.
The Golden Eagles finished with a 36-over 900 final team score, ending 22 strokes behind team champion and No. 10 Illinois, who fired an 878. Host Memphis finished second at 883 in the 15-team event.
Southern Miss returns to action April 14-15, at the Mossy Oak Collegiate in West Point, Miss. It is the final regular season tournament before participating in the Sun Belt Championship, April 21-24.
