
Men’s Golf Returns to Action at Memphis Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday when they participate in the 15-team Memphis Intercollegiate, which is being played at the par 72, 7,334-yard Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn.
The event gets started with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Monday and will play 36 continuous holes that day, before finishing with a final round on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles plan to utilize the lineup of sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay), freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario), senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.), Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) and junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.). Redshirt sophomore Walker Wise (Tupelo, Miss.) will participate as an individual.
Fernandez, who transferred to the team at mid-semester, leads the squad in stroke average at 70.67 over 12 rounds which includes one top 10 finish. Javier is next at 72.04 over 24 rounds and has two top five finishes to his credit. Dupuy, who has one top five finish and another top 10 result, holds a 73.17 stroke average to round out the Golden Eagle leaders.
The team has played well this spring, posting two top five finishes including a fourth place showing in its last event at the All-American Collegiate, which took place in Humble, Texas.
The other teams in the event include host Memphis, Austin Peay, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Dayton, Illinois, Illinois State, Lindenwood, Missouri State, Morehead State, Samford, UT-Martin, Tennessee State and WKU.
