
Beach Volleyball Set for Sun Belt Midseason Seeding Tournament

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (8-12, 2-2 Sun Belt) eyes four matches against Sun Belt Conference opponents as part of the league's midseason tournament in Foley, Ala. The Golden Eagles will open play on Friday against (RV) UNCW at 9 a.m. and wrap up the day against No. 18 Georgia State at 2 p.m.

UNCW rolls into the weekend receiving votes in the AVCA Poll after a perfect 6-0 week in Macon, Ga., at Mercer's Bears Beach Bash. Seahawk pair Lyvia Trimp and Gracie Sistrunk moved to 12-3 on the year after a 6-0 weekend which netted them Sun Belt Conference Pair of the Week laurels.
The Sun Belt Conference's coaches selected UNCW as the third-best team in the league, awarding 33 points to the Seahawks. Trimp and Sistrunk are the only pair in the SBC with two Pair of the Week nods while UNCW owns three as a program.
The Seahawks are led by second-year head coach David Fischer, who owns a 16-8 overall record. Fischer is in his first full season leading the team after finishing the 2020 COVID-affected season with a 4-5 ledger. Before taking over the Seahawks, he was a longtime assistant in Wilmington.

Traditionally the class of the Sun Belt Conference, Georgia State enters the week ranked 18th in the national poll. The Panthers have captured the last two Sun Belt Tournament Titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament each time.
Georgia State was selected to win the Sun Belt once again in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, taking six of seven first-place votes.
Head coach Beth Van Fleet is in her 10th season in Atlanta and owns a 209-120 overall record. Her squads have posted eight 20-win seasons in her tenure, including in each of the last four seasons.

The Chanticleers finished 2-2 at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C., with wins over College of Charleston and South Carolina. Coastal Carolina suffered setbacks against UNCW and Eastern Kentucky to end their weekend.
Coastal was selected to finish second in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 40 total votes – just eight behind league-leading Georgia State.
Chanticleer head coach Collin Wilson is in his second season with the program and sports a 35-20 overall record. Last season, Wilson led Coastal Carolina to a 27-10 record and an appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game.

Southern Miss wraps up its time in Foley against ULM, meeting the Warhawks for the second time this season. The Golden Eagles bested the Warhawks 3-2 at the Sugar Beach Bash in Youngsville, La., two weeks ago.
Like Southern Miss, that was ULM's last time out as well. The Warhawks finished the tournament 2-2 with wins over Central Arkansas and Southeastern while dropping a decision to (RV) Tulane in addition to Southern Miss.
ULM is led by first-year head coach Baylee Young, who sports a 46-25 overall record and is 7-9 in Monroe so far. ULM was selected to finish last in the Sun Belt Preseason Poll.
