
Men's Tennis Falls to Louisiana in SBC Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 4-0 loss to Louisiana on Saturday at the Southern Miss Tennis Courts. The Golden Eagles (2-10, 0-1 SBC) battled in multiple matches but were unable to overcome the Ragin' Cajuns (7-7, 1-0 SBC).
Louisiana secured the doubles point with wins at lines two and one. Niklas Jensen and Pasawee Reansuwong fell 6-1 at line two doubles, while Olle Noltorp and Saheb Sodhi dropped a 6-3 decision at the top spot. Ritabrata Sarkar and Ricards Spaks were leading 4-3 at line three doubles when the match was left unfinished.
In singles play, the Golden Eagles saw three matches go unfinished but dropped straight-set decisions on courts one, three, and four. Sodhi fell 6-3, 6-1 at line one, while Reansuwong lost 6-1, 6-2 at line three. Jensen suffered a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at line four.
Noltorp was in control at line two, leading 6-4, 5-0 when play was halted. Spaks was ahead 6-3, 2-3 at line five, while Sarkar was rallying at line six, trailing 2-6, 4-3.
Southern Miss will look to bounce back to host Georgia State on Saturday, March 22, at 10 a.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Courts.
