Southern Miss Notes
Â
- Southern Miss started the week with its first win against Southeastern in eight seasons, led by a standout performance from senior designated player and pitcher Jana Lee. In the circle, Lee recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts on 128 pitches, allowing six hits, one walk and no earned runs to secure her fourth win of the season. She also delivered her first career grand slam in the first inning, giving the team the four-run differential it needed to win the game. Lee led the Golden Eagles with seven hits and ten RBI in four games last week, knocking two home runs and a double while maintaining a .583 average with a 1.167 slugging percentage.
- Southern Miss joined LSU and Florida State as just the third team this season to hold Southeastern without a stolen base. The Lady Lions entered the contest ranked seventh nationally with 3.53 stolen bases per game.
- Southern Miss Softball delivered a record-breaking performance Thursday, scoring 28 runs in a 28-2 rout against UMES. The total marked the second-highest single-game run total in program history and the highest ever at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. The team's 28 runs also set the Division I season-high, surpassing UCLA's 26-run effort against Weber State. The all-time program record remains 29 runs, achieved on Feb. 28, 2009, against North Carolina Central. The previous second-highest total was 24, recorded against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2015 and Louisiana Tech in 2007.
- Southern Miss recorded a season-high 17 hits in the 28-2 win, tying the sixth most in a single game in program history. The team's 21 RBI ranked second all-time in program history, while their 13 walks set a new home record and tied for second-most in program history. Twelve different Golden Eagles recorded a hit in the game, with five turning in multi-hit performances:Lee, Natalie Taylor, Sam Bodell, Mikaila Fox and Carlee Durham. Lee paced the team with four RBI, including a three-run homer in the second inning, her second consecutive game with a home run following her grand slam against Southeastern on Wednesday. Freshman infielder Abbi Troquille drew a career-high three walks and tied an individual home record with four runs scored.
- Southern Miss recorded ten or more hits in four straight games at the Golden Eagle Classic, the program's longest streak since 2006. In total, 17 Golden Eagles contributed hits for Southern Miss throughout the week.
