Beach Volleyball Completes Day One of Beach Burg Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Golden Eagles opened the season on their home sand with losses to (RV) Florida Gulf Coast and North Alabama as part of the first day of the 2025 Beach Burg Invitational.
Southern Miss played host to some of the nation's best programs as No. 6 Florida State, No. 8 LSU and Spring Hill joined the tournament as well. Tournament action resumes tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex as (RV) Florida Gulf Coast takes on North Alabama.
The Golden Eagles are back in action three times tomorrow, playing at 2:30 p.m. against No. 6 Florida State, 4:40 p.m. against No. 8 LSU and 9 p.m. against Spring Hill.
(RV) Florida Gulf Coast 5, Southern Miss 0
Southern Miss began its 2025 season hosting Florida Gulf Coast, who received votes in the AVCA Beach Volleyball Preseason Poll. The Golden Eagles played the Eagles close, pushing FGCU to three sets at the second and fifth pairs, but ultimately fell 5-0 to the visiting Eagles.
Wiio Meinheit and Carmen Sanchez Delgado collected a three-set win in exhibition play after winning the decisive third set 15-8. Southern Miss' No. 2 pair of Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda took the first set 21-13 before falling in the second 21-16. The duo lost in the ultimate set 15-9.
In the fifth pairs, Ryann Thomas and Giovanna Gurgel Bahia also won the first set, 21-13, before falling 22-20 in the second, narrowly missing out on the Golden Eagles' first point of the match. FGCU's fifth pair bested the Southern Miss fives with a 15-13 win in the third set.

Southern Miss played back-to-back, taking on the Lions of North Alabama immediately after their loss to Florida Gulf Coast.
Again, Southern Miss played close with the Lions, taking the first point of the day thanks to Ryann Thomas and Giovanna Gurgel Bahia winning in two sets – 21-15, 21-18 – at the fifth pairing.
The Golden Eagles forced three-set decisions at the first pair and fourth pair, but ultimately lost in both. At the fourth position, Jaden White and Kitija Martini Adamsone lost 15-7 in the final set while Madison Cassidy and Zuzanna Michalska fell 15-13 at the top flight.
