
Four Men's Golfers Shoot Even Par or Below at Hal Williams Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss had four Golden Eagles shoot par or below over the opening two rounds of the Hal Williams Collegiate Monday at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
The Golden Eagles are tied for eighth in the team standings with rounds of 287 and 275 for a six-under 562 on the par 71, 7,059-yard course.
Senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.), freshman Filip Sakota (Milan, Italy) and freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) all ended their day with a 36-hole, one-under 141 to tie for 24th place. After opening with a 73, Dupuy followed with a team-low round tying 68 by collecting six birdies over his second round.
Sakota posted rounds of 71 and 70, while Javier added 70 and 71 over his two circuits.
Junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) collected rounds of 73 and 69 for an even-par 142 and a 36th-place tie, while freshman Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) finished the scoring with a 75 and 68 for a one-over 143 to put himself in a 41st-place tie.
The 275-team score over the second round was the lowest team score on a par 71 course since shooting a 272 in the final round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate on Sept. 10, 2019.
No. 15 SMU leads the team standings with a 20-under (548), followed by Kent State (556), Kansas State and Memphis (557), Texas State (559), UAB (560), Davidson (561), Southern Miss and Southern Illinois (562), Oral Roberts (564), Louisiana Tech (570), with host South Alabama and Seton Hall (572) rounding out the field.
The final 18 holes take place starting Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
