12/3/2025 9:40:00 PM | Men's Basketball
RADFORD, Va. – Southern Miss (5-3, 0-0 Sun Belt) extended its winning streak to four as it held off Radford (3-7, 0-0 Big South) 82-75 at the Dedmon Center. It was the first true road win for the Golden Eagles in 313 days.
Highlights
- Five Golden Eagles scored in double figures for the first time since playing Alabama State on Dec. 5, 2024. The five tonight were Isaac Taveras (18), Tylik Weeks (18), Djahi Binet (17), Dylan Brumfield (12), and Curt Lewis (11)
- Southern Miss is on its first four-game winning streak since the 2022-23 season
- Binet's 17-point, 13-rebound double-double is his first of the season and the second by a Golden Eagle
- Binet's 13 rebounds are the most by a Golden Eagle since Denijay Harris had 17 against Louisiana on Feb. 22, 2025
- The Golden Eagles went 27-for-32 from the free throw line and 19-for-24 in the second half
- Southern Miss out-rebounded Radford 47-34. It was the fifth time the Golden Eagles have posted more rebounds than their opponent
- Taveras has scored 10+ in all eight games now
How it Happened
Southern Miss and Radford traded 11-0 runs in the first half as the Golden Eagles posted the first one. Southern Miss went up 18-7, which forced a Radford timeout. The Highlanders then answered as the Golden Eagles went scoreless for nearly seven minutes.
Dylan Brumfield ended the drought when he tied the game at 20-20 with just under six minutes to play in the first half. The Highlanders then regained the lead before Southern Miss used a Curt Lewis trey to take a 25-23 lead.
That was the last time Radford was in front as the Golden Eagles took a 31-29 lead into the break. Both teams struggled shooting the ball as each shot no higher than 31 percent. However, Southern Miss went 8-for-8 from the free throw line, which proved to be huge as Radford attempted 19 in the first half.
With Taveras and Tylik Weeks getting into foul trouble in the first half, the two sat much of the first half. They started the second half and helped Southern Miss to an 11-0 run to open the final 20 minutes.
The momentum carried nearly six minutes with Southern Miss cruising to a 13-point lead, which was the biggest of the night. Despite that, Radford began to claw back as Jaylon Johnson drained a three-pointer to make it a five-point game with 6:15 to play.
The Golden Eagles got a big score from Curt Lewis as the transfer guard grabbed an offensive board and tipped the ball in to stop the Highlander run. Another pair of three-pointers made it a five-point game again, but Djahi Binet scored his final field goal of the night with two minutes to play to once again silence the crowd.
Southern Miss leaned on Dylan Brumfield down the stretch as the Hattiesburg native went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch to ice the win. He also had a clutch bank shot to ease the Southern Miss bench in the final minutes.
The Radford press was broken with seconds ticking down and ultimately sealed the win for Southern Miss.
