HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Athletics will host Giving Day, a 24-hour initiative set to benefit all areas of its department, and taking place from 12 noon, Tuesday, Dec. 2, until 12 noon, Wednesday, Dec. 3.
The purpose of Giving Day strengthens the foundation for future success across all Southern Miss Athletics programs and allows givers the opportunity to champion the teams, athletes, and initiatives they care about most.
The goal for the event is 500 donors and $25,000 with at least one donation to every program and fund. Every gift – no matter the size – makes an immediate impact and participation is just as important as the total dollars raised.
"Southern Miss reaches new heights when the Golden Eagle family rallies together, and Giving Day is a perfect opportunity to do just that," said Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain. "Every gift—no matter the size—directly impacts our student-athletes through scholarships, academic support, travel, and the resources they need to compete at the highest level. I hope you'll join us on Giving Day and help strengthen the future of Southern Miss Athletics. Together, we can keep building something special."
Giving Day will include the ability to aid the Athletic Director's Discretionary Fund, which supports immediate and unexpected program needs, emerging departmental opportunities, training, academic and wellness enhancements, along with operational needs critical to student-athlete success.
Individuals can also direct their giving to sport-specific needs that include equipment upgrades, travel resources, academic support services, as well as training and development resources which enhance the daily student-athlete experience and reduce pressure on the broader departmental budget.
Giving can also go to the Competitive Excellence Fund, which helps in its recruiting and retaining top-tier student-athletes, enhance development opportunities and assist in sustaining long-term competitiveness across all programs.
One additional way of giving is through the Eagle Club Scholarship Fund which provides critical support for Southern Miss student-athletes. Contributions help offset the costs of scholarships, academic resources, and services, giving student-athletes the opportunity to excel both in the classroom and on the field.
Donations will be set up online through SouthernMiss.com beginning at 12 noon, Dec. 2, and will run for the entire 24-hour event.
