NEW ORLEANS - Senior Taylor Trible was tabbed the Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week after her efforts at The Judson earlier in the week.
A year after finishing runner-up at the same event, Trible stormed back to win The Judson in a playoff on Tuesday afternoon. The Birmingham, Ala. native used a two-under 70 in her final round to finish in a tie for first with Tulane's Francesca Pompa. The two went off hole 17 in a playoff, which Trible went on to birdie to pick up her first collegiate win. Her 54-hole total of 211 is tied for the fifth-lowest total in program history and shattered her previous career low of 217. Trible opened the round with an even-par 72 and followed with a three-under 69 on Monday afternoon.
Trible also helped the Southern Miss women's golf team top Tulane in a playoff to win the team event. The Golden Eagles trailed by three strokes heading into Tuesday's final round and then trailed the Green Wave with only a handful of holes left. Southern Miss then used eight birdies down the stretch to catch Tulane in the standings. The two teams went off hole 17 in a five-person playoff, where a tie forced play to the 18th hole. Savannah Van Gaalen later nailed a 24-foot putt to secure the win for Southern Miss.Â
Trible and the Golden Eagles won The Judson for the second consecutive year and shattered the program's 54-hole record. Southern Miss fired a 13-under par, which topped the previous record by eight strokes.Â
