Gold Beats Black Squad 6-1 in Game One of Southern Miss Fall World Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Ty Long doubled twice and Tucker Stockman recorded a pair of singles with two RBI to lead the Gold over the Black squad 6-1 in the first game of the Southern Miss Baseball Fall World Series Friday evening at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
Six Gold pitchers limited the Black team to just two hits while fanning 10 with one walk and one hit by pitch in the seven-inning contest. Grayden Harris started the contest by retiring all six batters he faced with four strikeouts.
Gold pitching retired the first 19 hitters before giving up a two-out double to Matthew Russo in the sixth.
The Gold squad got on the on the board first with a solo run in the third. Stockman opened the frame with a one-out single to center off Black team starter Colby Allen. Long then followed with a run-scoring double to left.
A five-run fifth then blew open the game for the Gold.
Long got the Gold going again in the fifth with a leadoff double, before scoring a batter later on a sacrifice bunt from William Tonsmeire, which was thrown wild at first by reliever Cole Richardson.
After a pair of walks to Joey Urban and Braden Maranto, Drey Barrett doubled the opposite way into the right field corner to score two runs, before Stockman added a two-run single to center to end the scoring.
The Black team tallied its only run in the sixth. Ben Higdon opened the bottom of the sixth with a walk. After a hit by pitch to Kyle Morrison and an infield single to Jace Norton to load the bases, Cade Adams provided a sacrifice fly for their lone run.
Urban also added two hits in the eight-hit Gold attack.
Game two of the best-of-five set will take place Sunday at 3 p.m. Admission is free to every game of the Golden Eagle Fall World Series.
