
Men’s Golf Close Out the Little Rock Buick GMC Classic in Sixth Place

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.— Southern Miss settled into sixth place with a 7-under par scorecard at the conclusion of the Little Rock Buick GMC Classic. The Golden Eagles trail the two-way tie for fourth place, between North Texas and fellow Sun Belt team Coastal Carolina, by three strokes.
Following a 4-over performance between two rounds on day one, the red-shirt junior Walker Wise played a consistent round three marking down an even 72 with 12 straight pars. Following, he birdied and bogeyed twice on hole 16-17 and hole 1-2 respectively. The Mississippi Native shot up 11 places concluding the final round with a tied-for 48 place finish. Wise simultaneously placed in a two-way tie for second with 38 pars on the event.
"Golf is a very tough game. There will be many times you face adversity in this game," said Brescher. "This will be our first hurdle to overcome as this season progresses. I have all the faith in our team to bounce back the next time we tee it up."
Sophomore Matthew Javier played a steady 1-over 73, picking up three birdies along the way totaling 14 birdies to place him top 10 at the event in birdies. Javier ended day two in a two-way tie for fourth and signifying a season stroke average of 69.67 paired with Jake Moffitt. Moffitt locked in an even 36 on the front nine and closed out the round, 3-over 75. The standout freshman logs his second over par round on the season through four tournaments and 12 rounds.
Benjamin Fernandez and Will Burnham keep the trend from day one with an identical round three score, 2-over 74. Fernandez notched an eagle on hole nine, a par five spanning 538 yards, to edge out a 1-under 35 in the front nine while Burnham picked up 12 pars and two more birdies.
The Golden Eagles missed a podium finish trailing by only five strokes with Lipscomb in sole possession sitting at 12-under par. UAB climbed six spots with an 8-under round three to hold second place at 13-under par and the tournament host, Little Rock, in a comfortable first place with 34-under par following two 11-under par rounds and a 12-under par round two.
