Soccer Drops Duel Against UAB Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Soccer (1-3, 0-0 Sun Belt) fell 1-0 in a contested battle Sunday afternoon against UAB (3-2-1, 0-0 AAC) at the Marshall Bell Complex.
The Blazers capitalized on a free kick opportunity in the 33rd minute of the first half, as goalkeeper Anika Toth crossed the ball into play at Southern Miss' backline, earning the assist as Sydney Bolinger deflected the ball into the net for the lone goal of the game.
The score came from one of UAB's two shots on goal throughout the game. While Southern Mis outshot the Blazers 17-8, all six of the Golden Eagles' shots on goal were saved by Toth.
Southern Miss came close to converting on opportunities in both periods with two narrowly missed shots that hit the top crossbar from Chloe Taylor and Mallory Tapper.
Taylor led the team with four shots, including a season-high two on goal. The Liverpool, England native played every minute, recording her third consecutive game with 90 minutes played.
Golden Eagles goalkeeper Kesaia Bruni made her second career start and first nod of the season, playing a full two periods for just the second time in her career. Bruni recorded one save on the day, increasing her season total to 12.
