Soccer Set For Clash With Ole Miss Thursday

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Soccer (1-3, 0-0 Sun Belt) travels to Oxford, Miss. to conclude its nonconference slate against Southeastern Conference opponent Ole Miss (4-3, 0-0 SEC) on Thursday at 11Â a.m.

The Golden Eagles will make the in-state trip to wrap up a five-game nonconference schedule, which included games against three SEC opponents.Â
After suffering losses on the road to Auburn and Alabama, Southern Miss is reeling off of a 1-0 defeat to UAB at home last Sunday.
While Southern Miss outshot the Blazers 17-8, all six of the Golden Eagles' shots on target were saved by Blazers' keeper Anika Toth. UAB capitalized on an opportunity from a free kick in the 33rd minute as Toth crossed the ball into play at Southern Miss' backline, scoring from Sydney Bolinger's deflection for the lone goal of the match.
Sophomore Chloe Taylor led the team with four shots, including a season-high two on goal.
Golden Eagles goalkeeper Kesaia Bruni earned her first nod of the season in the starting lineup, making her second career start and playing a full match for the second time. Bruni recorded one save on the day, increasing her season total to 12.
Southern Miss will now face Ole Miss after its two-game road swing in Alabama. UAB beat the Rebels on Thursday before rebounding with a 2-1 victory against Samford on Sunday.

- Southern Miss leads the Sun Belt with 17.25 shots per game. The Golden Eagles started the season with 43 shots versus MVSU, which rank as the fourth-most shots in a game in program history and most since Aug. 30, 2013.
Freshman Raquelle Mitchell leads the team with two goals throughout four games, scoring a brace in her debut against MVSU. Her brace marked the first time a Golden Eagle has scored multiple goals in their debut since senior transfer Obafemi Alao scored two against South Alabama on Aug. 26, 2008.
- Bruni's 12 saves with four goals allowed her a .750 save percentage, which ranks as the fourth best in the Sun Belt.

- The Rebels are led by head coach Molly Rouse, who is in her second season with the program. Associate Head Coach Rob Thompson is also in his 15th season with the program.Â
- Freshman Kayla Keefer scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of play against Samford Sunday and recorded an assist on the first goal of the match. Keefer leads the team with four goals and two assists this season. The freshman earned SEC Soccer Freshman of the Week after recording a hat trick in her debut against Southern.
- Goalkeeper Shu Ohba ranks fourth in the SEC with a .722 save percentage. The senior from Fujisawa, Japan has started every match for the Rebels and earned 13 saves this season. Ohba led the SEC in saves with 67 last season, and ranked second in the conference in save percentage (.838). Ohba competed as an alternate goalkeeper with Team Japan at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
