
Men’s Golf in Sixth After Opening Day at Badger Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Both Ryan Dupuy and Will Burnham shot a first-round, one-under 71 to open the Badger Invitational Sunday at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis., in leading Southern Miss to a sixth place showing after the tournament's first 18 holes.
Dupuy, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., opened his day with three consecutive birdies and added two more on his back nine to give him five total at the par 72, 7,286-yard course. Burnham, a junior from Jackson, Miss., added four birdies, including a pair over his final two holes to give the duo a tie for 16th after 18 holes.
Sophomore Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) added a 73 to place him tied for 29th. Freshman Matthew Javier added a two-over 74 to place him tied for 40th, while redshirt freshman Matthew Downing (Oxford, Miss.) added an eight-over 80 to put him in a tie for 83rd.
The Golden Eagles ended with a one-over team score of 289 and are only eight strokes off the lead behind leader and host Wisconsin, which posted a team score of 281. Illinois State ranked second at 282, Northern Illinois third at 283, Long Beach State fourth at 286, before Washington State at 288 and the Golden Eagles in the 16-team event.
