
Soccer Battles to a Tie at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala.-Southern Miss Soccer (1-5-1, 0-1-1 Sun Belt) competed 90 minutes in a back-and-forth battle at The Cage Wednesday evening against South Alabama, securing the first conference point of the season on the road.
Southern Miss' scoreless result snapped a five-game losing streak and marked the team's first shutout since its 5-0 season-opener victory versus Mississippi Valley State.
Starting senior goalkeeper Kesaia Bruni thwarted South Alabama's scoring opportunities in the match, posting her first clean sheet of her career and saving a season-high five shots in a full 90 minutes played.
The Golden Eagles outshot South Alabama nine to seven, and created a season-high corner opportunities.
Southern Miss got active early in the game, as Lorilee Taylor and Taylor Stewart made attempts on the attack for the Golden Eagles. Taylor led the team with five shots, including one shot on target.
Bruni saved three shots in the first half to keep the score even at halftime. South Alabama fought back in the second half, but Bruni's two saves stopped the Jaguars and secured the team's first tie of the season.
After the first 17 games of the all-time series between Southern Miss and South Alabama produced no ties, the programs have both ended in scoreless draws in their last two matches.
Head Coach Mohammed El-Zare, Southern Miss Soccer's winningest coach, reached a milestone marker in the match, completing his 200th career game at the helm of the program.
