HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Soccer (1-6-1, 0-2-1 Sun Belt) fell to Texas State 1-0 (6-3-3, 2-0-1 Sun Belt) Sunday afternoon at the Marshall Bell Complex.
While the Golden Eagles fought even with the Bobcats, Mady Soumare's game-winning goal in the 63rd minute gave Texas State the differential it needed for the team's second straight conference victory.
Southern Miss registered eight shots, but only fired one on goal in the match, which came from a direct shot on a free kick from Chloe Taylor.
After a scoreless first half, Southern Miss found itself down by one 18 minutes into the second period. While the Golden Eagles had four corner opportunities in the half, Texas State cleared the ball away to prevent any scoring opportunities.
Victoria Meza led the Bobcats with four shots in the match, while Adaira Nakano's three shots led the Golden Eagles.
A season-high of nine starters played the full 90 minutes Sunday for the Golden Eagles: Nakano, Mallory Tapper, Shaelynn Quick, Rebeka Vega, Raquelle Mitchell, Chloe Taylor, Ishpreen Marwah, Natalie Wilson and Kesaia Bruni. Tapper has played every minute for Southern Miss this season.
