Golden Eagles Surge Up Leaderboard to Finish in Third at Hoover Invite

HOOVER, Ala. – The Southern Miss women's golf team used a massive third round on Tuesday to claim a third-place finish at the Hoover Invite in Hoover, Ala. The final round at Hoover Country Club also marked the second-lowest team score under first-year head coach Colton Cowan and the seventh lowest in program history.
Momoka Ando set a new career low on Tuesday with a six-under 66. Her round shot her up 27 spots on the leaderboard and gave her a fourth-place finish. Ando drained six birdies and played bogey-free golf over the final 18 holes of the tournament. Outside of a double bogey on the second hole, Jacee Fields also played bogey-free golf en route to a 13th-place finish. Fields fired a one-over 73 that featured three birdies.
Elena Melich and Taylor Trible both finished in 17th. Melich had a pair of birdies as she shot a two-over 76, while Trible carded a six-over 78. Alma Betoret finished in a tie for 31st after a three-over 75 today. Betoret drained three birdies to bring her total to eight for the event. Freshman Louise Cuyvers shot a three-over 75 in her final round and finished with one birdie.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Hawkeye Invitational. The two-day event is set to take place at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
