Beach Volleyball Finishes First Day at GSU Diggin’ Duals

ATLANTA – Southern Miss beach volleyball fell in two matches against No. 8 LSU and Florida Gulf Coast in the first day of the GSU Diggin' Duals. The Golden Eagles pushed FGCU to the brink, falling 4-1 and playing in two third set matches.

#8 LSU 5, Southern Miss 0
The Golden Eagles (12-16) opened tournament play against the nationally-ranked LSU Tigers, falling in two sets across the five duals and exhibition. Ola Chudzik and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou made a run at the Tigers as the third pairing, falling 21-17 and 21-18.

Florida Gulf Coast 4, Southern Miss 1
In a rematch from their first meeting of the season, the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast took a 4-1 decision from Southern Miss. Chudzik and Siakidou Papakyriakou were able to complete a three-set win after dropping the first set 21-11 to take Southern Miss' only point of the match.

At the 3s, Ashlyn Rough and Dylan Russell took the Eagles to three sets, falling 15-11 in the rubber set.

Southern Miss is back in action tomorrow in the final day of the GSU Diggin' Duals. The Golden Eagles begin play against No. 17 Stetson at 11:30 a.m. CT and conclude their weekend in Atlanta against host Georgia State at 4 p.m.
