Palomino Ties for 5th in High Jump at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior Zayne Palomino (Kingston, Jamaica) collected a fifth-place tie in the high jump competition Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass.

Palomino cleared the heights of 2.10, 2.15 and 2.18 meters in his first attempt at every level but was unsuccessful in his three tries at 2.21 meters.

He tied for fifth with Omamuyovwi Erhire of Texas Tech to earn first-team All-America honors.

"Zayne made this program proud today with a great showing in the national indoor meet," said Jon Stuart. "We are extremely excited that he finished his indoor season as a first-team All-American."

Palomino won three of his five high jump events during the season, including the Sun Belt Conference championship with a leap of 2.20 meters. That mark was his personal best and was the one that also earned him the qualification in this event.

The Golden Eagles open the outdoor season March 15-16 in Mobile, Ala., at the South Alabama Invite.
