LAST TIME OUT
Southern Miss earned its first back-to-back 20-win season for just the third time of the McNelis era with a 78-67 overtime win over Murray State. The second round victory was also Joye Lee-McNelis' 1,000th game of her coaching career.
The Lady Eagles rode 33 points from Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La.) and 25 from Jacorriah Bracey (Drew, Miss.) to the win to stay alive in the WNIT. Davis' performance also moved her ahead of Portland McCaskill for the most points scored in a single season in program history.
ABOUT ULM
The Warhawks are led by first-year head coach Missy Bilderback, who has won more games this season that in ULM's previous four in her inaugural season. With eight transfers into the program, the Warhawks have rebuilt themselves and are in the postseason for the first time in the 21st century.
Daisha Bradford leads the group with 19.1 points per game and is one of four Warhawks to average double figures. Bradford also leads the group in rebounds, assists and steals.
THE ULM SERIES
Southern Miss leads the series 18-10 though ULM has taken the last two matchups. This is ULM's first win streak in the series since 2005-06. Of note, this is the second time in program history that Southern Miss will play a current conference opponent in a non-conference postseason tournament. The Lady Eagles previously played Jackson State in 1980-81 in the regular season and in the AIAW Region III Tournament in Valdosta, Ga.
THE WNIT
The Women's National Invitational Tournament enters its 26th season after resurrecting itself in 1998. This season will mark Southern Miss' seventh appearance in the tournament with the first coming in 1982 as part of the WNIT predecessor, the NWIT (National Women's Invitational Tournament) in Amarillo, Texas.
With seven overall appearances, Southern Miss is 9-7 overall and made the Great Eight in 2015. This is Southern Miss' first trip to the WNIT since 2018 and the 10th overall game in Reed Green Coliseum as part of the tournament. The Lady Eagles are 8-2 in Hattiesburg when playing in the WNIT and 1-5 on the road.
