Lady Eagles Fall to ULM in WNIT Super 16
MONROE, La. – Four double-figure performances from Southern Miss were not enough to overcome ULM's offensive onslaught. The Warhawks advance to the Great 8 on the heels of a 84-71 win in front of 1,257 fans at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Southern Miss (20-14) scored the first two points of the day but had their lead quickly erased by a 7-0 ULM (21-13) run. The Warhawks never looked back, leading for the remaining 36:51. The Lady Eagles moved as close as four points late in the third quarter before another ULM run.
The Lady Eagles were able keep the game relatively close but simply ran out of time. Monroe closed out the game and held on to their 13-point victory.
With the final sound of the horn, Southern Miss' 49th season of basketball comes to a close. The year came with many milestones and hallmarks, perhaps none bigger than the culmination of Domonique Davis' (DeRidder, La.) illustrious career. In three years as a Lady Eagle, she scored 1,634 points, more than every player in program history except five. Davis finishes in the top 10 of eight career categories and eight season categories.
The Magnificent Seven's miraculous run may be over, but their grit, determination and fighting spirit will carry on to the next group of Lady Eagles.
