SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – Merche Corbacho and Alma Betoret both fired a two-under 70 during Sunday's final round of the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. The Golden Eagles finished tied for 12th with Minnesota.
"Really proud of the way this group fought this week," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "We didn't do ourselves any favors the first round, but showed that we can hang in a tough field. We have some work to do before our next event, but some rest and time at home is well-needed and well-earned."
Momoka Ando extended her streak of top-20 finishes this season to seven consecutive tournaments after finishing tied for 17th this weekend. The Tokyo, Japan native ended her tournament with a one-under 71 that featured five birdies. Southern Miss' 43 birdies on the weekend was tied for the fourth-most in the 15-team field – Ando had 13.
Corbacho's impressive round moved her into tie for 34th, while Betoret ended up finishing in a tie for 40th. Elena Melich and Ragini Navet both fired a five-over 77 during the final round and both finished in a tie for 70th. South Florida shot 16-under par en route to the team title and Melanie Green helped secure the win with an 11-under par weekend.
The Golden Eagles resume play on March 1-2 at Bayou Desiard Country Club for the ULM Invitational.
