MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama's (15-15, 7-10 Sun Belt) hot start to the second half was too much for Southern Miss (16-14, 9-8 Sun Belt) men's basketball to overcome on Wednesday night in a 73-70 loss at the Mitchell Center in Mobile.

Victor Hart scored his first point of the game on a free throw that started the run, then tied the game with another free throw nine minutes later. Mo Arnold gave Southern Miss the lead on its next possession for the first time since late in the first half.
Though up two with less than four minutes to play, the Golden Eagles were hit with a pair of South Alabama three-pointers halted the comeback. The first came from Marcus Millender than put the Jaguars back on top and the second came from Judah Brown. Brown's triple made it a four-point game with two minutes to play.
Curbelo hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds left that got Southern Miss within a point, but Tyrell Jones hit a pair of free throws to ice the game. Curbelo went 10-of-16 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds.
Victor Iwuakor turned in 16 points and nine rebounds, while Hart finished with 10 points – all of which came in the second half. Austin Crowley had 10 points and played sparingly in the second half after having to come out with an injury.
The Golden Eagles shot 44 percent from the floor and only 15 percent from deep. They forced 10 steals and 15 South Alabama turnovers. The Jaguars went 10-for-28 from deep at a 35 percent clip.
