Lady Eagles Cruise to 70-59 Win at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas State struck first but a Domonique Davis three ball 31 seconds into the game gave Southern Miss a lead it did not relinquish for the next 39 minutes. Four Lady Eagles finished in double-figure scoring, led by Davis' 19 points to help Southern Miss to a 70-59 victory over the home-standing Red Wolves.
Davis (DeRidder, La.) and Morgan Sieper (Tampa, Fla.) each hit four three pointers which, along with a Nyla Jean (Tampa, Fla.) long ball, combined for nine three-point baskets, tying the team's previous season best set against William Carey and Akron.
The Lady Eagles (16-11, 9-7 Sun Belt) exploded out of the gates for a 24-point first quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 16 later on. Up 41-43 at the half, Melyia Grayson already had a double-figure day with 10 points. Davis and Jacorriah Bracey combined for 25 of Southern Miss' 29 second half points.
In total, Davis' 19 points led all scorers. Bracey finished with 17 points with Sieper and Grayson scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. Southern Miss struggled on the glass but hit at a rate of 53.8 percent from the floor and 52.9 percent from behind the arc. Southern Miss' 19 assists are the most against a Division I opponent this season as well.
Southern Miss moves to 9-7 in Sun Belt play and could finish the day as high as fifth in the conference standings.
