LAST TIME OUT
A depleted Lady Eagle roster extended its Sun Belt-best conference win streak to six-straight games with a 68-58 win over Texas State. The win also marked the first win for Southern Miss over Texas State, moving the overall series record to 1-3.
The star that is Domonique Davis shone its brightest, rising to the occasion to drop 29 points on the day, including 16 points in the final quarter to seal the 10-point win. Her efforts helped Southern Miss outscore Texas State 28-18 in the fourth quarter and 42-36 in the second half to move to 8-6 in Sun Belt play and just two games out of the coveted double-by in the Sun Belt Tournament.
ABOUT ULM
The darling of the early slate of the Sun Belt schedule, ULM's fire has cooled in recent weeks. At their last meeting, ULM moved to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in Sun Belt play but since then has gone just 3-5 and careened down the conference standings.
First-year head coach Missy Bilderback has definitely turned the program around this season, winning one-less game in 2023-24 as ULM did from 2019-2023. However, the group is facing its toughest challenges yet – repeat opponents familiar with their play style.
Daisha Bradford is still a wonder for the team, leading a group of four Warhawks that average double-figure scoring with 19.5 points per game. She also leads the group in rebounding, assists, steals and minutes played. Jakayla Johnson, Sania Wells and Katlyn Manuel all have double-figure averages as well with 14.7, 10.4 and 10.1 points per game, respectively.
THE ULM SERIES
Southern Miss first met ULM – then Northwest Louisiana – in 1978 and has played 27 games in total since then. The Lady Eagles lead the all-time series 18-9 against the Warhawks, though ULM snapped a four-game Southern Miss win streak in their last meeting.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two as members of the Sun Belt Conference with Southern Miss holding a 2-1 record in games with the same conference logos.
AFTER THIS
Southern Miss heads out to Jonesboro, Ark., for a Saturday, Feb. 24, tip at Arkansas State. The two met last week and it was a show to say the least. Jacorriah Bracey outscored the Red Wolves by herself in the second half to help Southern Miss win 57-48.
Tipoff from Arkansas State's First National Bank Arena is set for Noon as part of a doubleheader day in Jonesboro. An ESPN+ broadcast will be produced by Arkansas State with Jason Baker, the Voice of the Lady Eagles, providing radio commentary through the Southern Miss Sports Network.
