Latter, Ruby Help Men’s Golf to Strong Finish at Hal Williams Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Seniors Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) and Bennett Ruby (Waterloo, Ontario) each finished strong over the final day of the Hal Williams Collegiate, Tuesday, to help Southern Miss place tied for seventh in the 14-team event played in Mobile, Ala.
The tournament took place at the par-71, 7,178-yard Magnolia Grove at The Crossings course with the Golden Eagles finishing a strong second round early Tuesday morning with a three-under 281, before finishing the event with a final-round, even-par 284.
Ruby, who shot a 68 to complete his second round, completed his tournament with a team-low 69 over the final round to finish tied for 10th with a one-over 209. This was Ruby's best finish as a Golden Eagle.
Latter added an even-par 71, before shooting a 70 over his last 18 holes to end in ninth place with a 208.
Junior Cameron Guidry (Picayune, Miss.) tied for 56th with a 72 and 70 over his final two rounds for a 219, while senior Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) ended his event with a 72 and 75 for a 221 and a 58th-place tie. Junior Dupuy added a 70 and 79 to end his 54-hole event with a 225 and a 74th-place tie.
Illinois took home the team title with a 25-under 827, followed by LSU (830) in second, VCU (836) in third, Davidson (849) in fourth and Kansas State (850) rounding out the top five.
The Golden Eagles return to action Feb. 25-27, at the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
